WEST WALLS WALTZ
BEYOND THE NORTH WALL
ABOUT JIM HILTON
Jayne looked out of the living room window as the large, green delivery van pulled up and parked outside the house.
Two delivery men soon appeared at the rear of the van and began unloading a wooden box, roughly seven foot square in size.
The box seemed to be very heavy by the effort that was needed to place it on the wheeled trolley.
The two men exchanged puzzled looks and stood talking and peering intently at the case. Finally, they started down the driveway towards the house.
Now it was Jaynes' turn to look puzzled.
"Jim, have you been ordering anything I don't know about?" she asked. She had had a few previous surprises via Ebay that He had bid for and won. (There was still an art deco 'Mr. Beaver' in the garage that bore testament to this!)
"No, I haven't ordered anything - why do you ask?" he replied from the bathroom. He peered around the bathroom door, looking down the stairs, his face covered in shaving foam.
Jayne was already at the front door.
He shrugged and went back to shaving. He could here muffled voices from downstairs but couldn't make out what was being said.
After about five minutes had passed, Jayne appeared at the bathroom door. The expression on her face was one that defied an easy definition.
A mixture of joy, shock and uncertainty.
Jim was taken by surprise and for long seconds just stared blankly back at her!
